144: The Raven (Oct 29 & 30, 2021)

This class can be completed by a confident beginner quilter.  The Raven uses several different techniques:  the moon is traditional paper piece, the Raven is made with a freezer paper piecing method (no paper to tear out) and the colorful ball of yarn is free hand!   This is a really fun project and can be completed in just a few days.

Supply List

  •        Rotary cutter and mat (medium size mat is best - 18" x 24"). You won’t need a rotating mat
  •        Iron and  ironing mat (you will want one at your station!)
  •        Sewing machine & standard supplies
  •        Lots of sharp pins (short ones for applique are good, but not a necessity)..bring what you have!
  •        Add a quarter ruler or a ruler with 1/4” marking
  •        Rulers...I really like my 6" x 12" ruler and my smaller straight rulers (you won’t need any square rulers)
  •        8 color pencils (cheap ones!)
  •        2 different color of highlighters
  •        Fine tip sharpie
  •        Pencil
  •        The Raven pattern - included with class fee
  •        Fabric
    • at least 8 fat quarters or ¼ yard of 8 black fabrics for Raven (you can bring smaller scraps in addition to your main 8 fabrics)  Look for black fabric that can help add a texture look
    • 1 ¼ background fabric – just pick 1 fabric for the background
    • moon fabric – scraps work!  3 x 5 is plenty big (at least 5-7 fabrics)
    • ball of yarn fabric – Lot’s of colorful scraps 2 x need to cut these perfectly
